Campaign to increase Paediatric Rheumatology Services in NSW
In late 2019, JAFA met with the NSW Minister for Health & Medical Research, Brad Hazzard, to present him with a funding proposal to enhance services for children and young people with juvenile arthritis across NSW. The Shadow Health Minister, Ryan Park, was briefed about the proposal. Follow up in 2020 is focusing on supporting parents with tools for lobbying their local NSW Member of Parliament to support JAFA’s Proposal for Enhancing NSW Paediatric Rheumatology Services. Social Media Campaigns to raise awareness of Juvenile Arthritis
WOrld young Rheumatic Diseases (WORD) Day is an annual international event held on March 18. In 2020, JAFA mounted a national Twitter campaign led by Adam Peacock, FOX Sport and father of a young child with juvenile arthritis , to raise political and media awareness of the need a greater investment in better care, support, and research for this painful and currently incurable autoimmune disease. JAFA runs intermittent issue-specific Twitter campaigns on topical juvenile arthritis matters as they arise.
Campaign for a National Services Framework for Juvenile Arthritis
JAFA has commenced lobbying the Federal Minister for Health & Ageing to develop a national framework detailing best practice staffing levels and mix, models and configurations of services and evidence informed treatment and care for children and young people with juvenile arthritis.
Parent Information Program
An on-line Symposium Series for parents and young people with juvenile arthritis featuring leading paedatric rheumatologists and nurses highlighting and exploring critical treatment and research issues commenced in May 2020.
Fundraising for research
JAFA is currently commencing an ongoing program to raise substantial funds to assist Australian doctors and scientists to research ways to prevent, find better and safer treatments, and ultimately cure juvenile arthritis.
